How to wire a 3 way lamp socket

The bulb works fine in my other - way lamp. But in the new lamp with the new - way socket installe the light only turns on with the second click. I put the wire in the ribbed side on the silver screw.

In your video, the wire looks solid silver. Fix it Kurt replace socket on lamp.

Costs about $or $and takes to minu.

I also suggest putting an Underwriters knot in the wires at the socket for safety.

It reminded me of when and How my Dad would show me Stuff . I have been needing to replace the switch and - way socket of my beloved Tiffany- style lamp for ages. These sockets have two terminals, one for the hot wire and one for the neutral. I was amazed to find that the lamp wires were indeed one smooth and one with lines to identify neutral from hot. Does this work for - way lighting, too? Unplug the lamp and remove its shade, harp, and bulb.

First, remove the lamp shade, harness and light bulb. Thread the new three- way switch assembly onto the threaded rod. Connect the two colored wires to their appropriate color-coded contacts and tighten the screws to complete the connection. Slide the cardboard sleeve down over the wiring , and press the socket into the base smoothly and easily until it locks into position. True, the lamp will usually work either way.

Normally, power (voltage) comes through the tab on the socket base. The threaded socket is the neutral. So when the switch is off, all “hot” parts of the . The challenge turned out to be. Took less that minutes to replace the old socket.

You just pull the old socket up to expose the wires (unplug the lamp first, naturally ), pop it open either by unscrewing it or prying apart the crimping. QTY Incorrect wiring can result in fire or death from electric shock!
