No earth wire for light fitting

As all lighting circuit is old there is no earth available. The vendor is apparently not willing to upgrade the wiring. This generally means no metal switches, no metal lamp fittings.

I wish to replace my plastic light switches with metal ones, but there is no earth wire from the supply. To use this device is not difficult but you must turn all the lighting .

Alternatively, you can boost your light levels by adding extra .

This entire lighting range is double insulated and does not require earth cable.

Double insulated lighting for ceilings. How can you assume the switch wire is black. My light fixture on ceiling rose is near as damn it the same as in this video. Most plastic switches and light fittings are also safe for use on circuits with no earth.

It is not permitted to borrow an earth from another circuit. But for the sake of simplicity we ignore the Earth wire when explaining wiring as it plays no active role in the . Modern LED fittings with an external driver, even if the fitting is metal, would not need an earth wire if the driver is double insulated. Older wiring rules however allowed metal light fittings to be wired without an earth . Note the red tape on the blue wire (position 2) to indicate that this is not a. You should not have trouble connecting three or four earth wires to the earth terminal. The green and yellow earth wire goes into the earthing terminal which looks like this.

When you are satisfied that they are secure you can fix the light fitting to the bracket. Ensure that no wires become trapped when it is . If the light fitting you have purchased has just two cores - live (brown) and neutral (blue), connect the live to the switch live terminal and neutral to the neutral terminal. Two-way light switches are required for two way switching, these can be identified by looking at the terminals on the back of the switch.

Often people remove old light fittings without identifying the switched live wire. I can confirm the fitting is Class I, earthed. Note that the colour coding of the fixed wiring within your home and colour coding of wiring in the light fittings may not match. If there is an earth terminal on the fitting and no earth with .
