Prototype schema

It argues that individuals make category judgments by comparing new stimuli with instances already stored in memory.

The instance stored in memory is the exemplar. People store knowledge in many different ways. The main storage types are: Concepts, Schemes and Scripts, and Personal Theories. The problem with schemas is this: sometimes we need prototypes , sometimes we need archetypes, sometimes we need stereotypes, but transitioning between them is not trivial in any schema language, which may be optimised for particular cases.


Some schema are easier to change than others, and some people are more open about changing any of their schemas than other people. Other types of schema include: Social schemas are about general social knowledge. Person schemas are about individual people.


Idealized person schemas are called prototypes. The two important social psychological concepts that help us understand how cognize the social world in this manner are schema and prototypes. This schema supports the initiation and continuation of the act of designing.
