Just plug it into the top and bottom of every duplex receptacle. If you have outlets in your home with reverse polarity , then you are not alone. We often find these on home inspections. In this video Maggiore Inspections discusses reverse polarity in an electrical system.
I switched the hot and neutral and when retested it still showed as reveresed.
Is it an outlet earlier in the chain that may be switched?
Electronic equipment will still function fine.
How to fix : Get an electrician. The electrician will check the color of the wires feeding to the outlet. If the white wire is connected to the smaller slot on the outlet , then the outlet was wired backwards. This happens when the hot and neutral wires get flipped around at an outlet , or upstream from an outlet.
Home wiring is color-code and the black wire is “hot,” meaning that it is electrically charged or, as it is sometimes calle the “live” wire.
