The trick is to adjust the hang nut to the proper length from the ceiling so that the cover will come at about half way down the threads on the hang nut.

Residential ceiling fixtures come in many different shapes, and people have devised many ways to attach them to the ceiling. The box must be acceptable for use with your light fixture and be securely attached to the building structure to support the weight of the fixture. No need to call an electrician. You can easily swap out the light fixtures in your home.
Unscrew the cover on the ceiling rose and the wires will be exposed. We need to remove this to enable us to connect the new light. If you do not know which wire is the switched live wire then see-.

The power (from the breaker) is likely at the light fixture. What you need to do is hook it up like . Next, attach the wires protruding from the ceiling box to the wires on your light fixture. The third copper colored wire is the ground wire. Twist the exposed parts of the white wires together clockwise, then screw the wire nut onto the ends. Attach both wires to terminals and mark the white wire black.
